Learn why and how to prepare for rituals and spellwork in your home or bedroom.

Learning why and how to prepare for ritual and spellwork is essential for Pagans, Wiccans, and Witches. Proper preparation protects you not only from negative energies but also from being interrupted by family and friends.

Physical Safeguards

Whether you live alone or with family, there are certain steps you can take to reduce the chance of being interrupted during ritual time. First, if you share your home or apartment with another person either choose to perform your ritual while they are away from home or speak to them and tell them about your need to not be disturbed.

Lock your doors to prevent anyone from entering your ritual space. You will also want to turn off the telephone, cell phone, and television. In other words, if it makes noise and is not essential turn it off.

Spiritual Safeguards

Spiritual safeguards are just as important as the physical ones. Take a bath or shower. Many practitioners of magic believe that washing off before ritual will prevent the day’s negative energies from tagging along and interfering with ritual. Change your clothes for this same reason. To protect yourself from psychic attacks, anoint your forehead and heart area with sandalwood oil. Salt is also regarded as being highly protective. Sprinkle a pinch of salt in each corner of the room where the ritual will take place.

White Light

Another way to protect your self during ritual and spellwork is to visualize a white light. There are many different ways to visualize this protective light.

Engulfing White Light – If you are working in a small area you can fill your surroundings with light. Visualize a ball of bright light floating in front of you. It grows bigger and bigger until the entire room is filled with light.

Circle of Light – A circle of protective light is a popular method of protecting the ritual area. Visualize a circle of light springing up from the ground. Or, using the index finger of your power hand (or wand) “draw” the circle of light around your ritual area.

Light Bubble – Visualize a protective bubble of light surrounding you and your ritual area. Know that nothing negative or unwelcome can break through its outer shell.

Remember. . .

Protection against negative energies, psychic attacks, and even annoying phone calls is essential. All these things have a negative impact on rituals as well as upon the person performing the ritual. Take precautions and avoid wasting precious time answering the phone or having to wait until the next full moon for a special ritual.
