Many Pagans and Wiccans celebrate various phases of the moon in their worship. Here are several moon chants for use in ritual for any time of the year and for any age.

Witches, Wiccans and some other types of Pagans celebrate the Goddess at the full moon or at other phases of the moon. It is a time to honor the Goddess and to ask for the things you need to manifest in your life, your hopes and dreams.

Here are several moon chants for weaving more musical magic into your rituals. These chants are also fun to sing with your family, at a particular moon phase, if you are too busy for a full ritual. Light some incense, give thanks, and sing for the joy of the beauty of the moon! You can find all of these chants recorded at Pagan Chant of the Month Archive.

As We Circle Dance

This chant is excellent at raising power for your spells at any phase of the moon. You can also dance in your ritual while singing this chant, though it's not as easy as it sounds. It's easy to get out of breath when chanting and dancing together. Start with a simple dance holding hands walking around the circle to the rhythm to the chant. If you have older or pregnant participants be sure to include a few chairs in case anyone needs to sit down.

This chant is for specifically the full moon, and shorter than the first. This one might be easier for younger participants to remember. "Full Moonlight Dance" could be sung for raising energy, or just after the statement of purpose.

"Call To the Moons" is probably the easiest chant to use with children at any moon phase you wish to celebrate. This chant is best sung after the invocation of the Goddess. The "crescent moon" line is sung twice to honor the waxing and waning crescents.

Because most moon rituals are times of spell work for things needed, material or spiritual, this chant is a great way to close a ritual, after power has been raised and the spell released. It acts as a musical affirmation that we live in a state of abundance.

Another chant for invoking the Goddess, this one is short and sweet, but very powerful. For a variation, ritual participants can sing improvisations, such as "In Her Name". Play with the sound and have fun with it!

For Wiccans and other Witches, the "Charge of the Goddess" invites us to celebrate at the full moon:

"Whenever you have need of anything, once a month, and better it be when the moon is full, you shall assemble in some secret place and adore the spirit of Me Who is Queen of all the Wise....Sing, feast, dance, make music and love, all in My Presence, for Mine is the ecstasy of the spirit and Mine also is joy on earth." -Traditional by Doreen Valiente, as adapted by Starhawk

May these chants provide you with the means to celebrate life and achieve your dreams and goals!
